School Board Trustee Zone 1
Dave Klug

I am running for the Buhl School Board because I want to play an active role in making decisions that shape the future of Buhl’s students. I have lived and worked in the Buhl community for 43 years. I worked for L.L. Langdon’s for 30 years in a number of positions, including being the financial manager. I have a great deal of experience in school finance. As the business manager for the Buhl School District for 13 years, I worked with the superintendent to develop a budget to address the needs of the school district. I worked with the federal programs director, the maintenance department, the food service department, the technology department and the career and technical program. I believe that my knowledge would be a great asset to the Buhl School District.
Service

How are you currently serving in Buhl? What past or current community activities have shaped your approach to leadership?

I have been a member of the Buhl Housing Board for 10 years. The last two years I have been the board chairperson. As the board chairperson, I am responsible for following federal guidelines, directing the meetings, working with housing personnel and approving the budget. I am also serving on the Buhl School Foundation Board helping with the finances.

Transparency

How do you plan to address the community’s concerns about trust and transparency in local government decisions?

As a trustee, my goal will be to listen to the community about their concerns and share those with the other trustees. Then I will work with the other board members to come up with the best possible solution. It is important that I advocate for students, support teachers and staff and work with the superintendent and fellow trustees to meet the needs of the Buhl School District.
Division
How will you work to bridge divides in our community, especially among groups with differing views?

There will always be disagreements among the board members and the public. Everyone has different opinions and ideas. Getting the correct information regarding an issue is important before making decisions as well as listening to everyone in a respectful way. Disagreements and differing opinions can sometimes be an avenue for a good conversation. I think listening and being respectful is very important.
Public Input

What role do you believe public input should play in your decision-making process if elected?

I will listen to all points of view and share those opinions and concerns with the other school board members. Then I will work with the other board members to make decisions that are best for students in the Buhl School District.

Buhl Schools - Urgent Need
What is one specific issue facing Buhl Schools that you believe needs immediate attention, and how would you approach it?

The one issue facing Buhl Schools is having enough resources. I want every student to have every resource available so they can get the best education possible. I think every decision the board makes should be based on “what is best for kids.” I also want every resource available to help teachers and staff succeed.
Meeting Student Needs
How will you ensure the Buhl School District meets the needs of all students, including those from diverse or underserved backgrounds?

It is important that the school board considers the needs of all students including those from diverse and underserved backgrounds when making decisions. Again, I think that every decision the board makes should be based on “what is best for all kids.”

Funding Priorities
School districts often face tough choices around funding. What priorities would guide your decisions about how to allocate resources in Buhl Schools and how would you address limited funding?

School funding has been a challenge for a number of years and will continue to be a challenge. Funding priorities should include having classrooms that are equipped with the tools that teachers need to teach all students regardless of their background. Funding should help all students be successful. I will work with the superintendent and fellow trustees to ensure state funding is used effectively to meet the needs of the Buhl School District.
